SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse city school district is looking into a Plan B to move children out of Dr. Weeks Elementary School early new year.

Superintendent Dan Lowengard will reveal the plan today when when he briefs the school board. Plan B involves moving students to three separate sites. Lowengard says that this will allow the renovation to proceed on schedule. The original plan was to move 1,600 students into temporary classrooms at the Syracuse Developmental Center.

Some issues arose with the original plan:
  • Private developers were unable to meet the deadline to purchase the facility.
  • Texas-based developer Health Consortium-USA said it could not finance the deal without modifying the lease.
Original plan sparked some controversy

Mayor Stephanie Miner was very critical of how school officials handled the Syracuse Developmental Center deal. Miner also says that the Dr. Weeks project will be delayed because of a lack of financing for it.

Superintendent Lowengard says that the school district will not miss any of the construction deadlines, despite implementing a new plan.
